Background:
Cochise County has been awarded an Arizona Commerce Authority Economic Strengths Grant in the amount of $475,000 for improvements to Robbs Road and Arzberger Road, Willcox. These roads are the main routes used by the Willcox wine industry, where 75% of the grapes used to make wine in Arizona are grown by regional vineyards. Improving these roads will help to boost local economic development through the expansion of vineyards, new tasting rooms, event centers, lodging, and eateries, and the attraction of visitors.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The acceptance of this agreement will allow the County to move forward with the project and to begin receiving reimbursements from ADOT.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The County would have to utilize its own funding to complete the improvements, potentially delaying other planned projects.
