Agenda Item Text:

Adopt Resolution 19-03 to drop 3.96 miles of Duquesne Road from the County Maintenance System and adopt Resolution 19-04 to add 1 mile of Kings Ranch Road to the County Maintenance System.

Background:

Duquesne Road is located within the Coronado National Forrest and therefore Cochise County is not legally required to maintain it.  Duquesne is classified as a primitive road, maintenance is limited to routine blading.

Kings Ranch Road is a publicly dedicated road which meets the requirements for the addition to maintenance and serves as the access point for several residences. The adjoining parcel owners have applied to participate in the Public/Private Partnership Program to improve the road surface. The parcel owners raised $40,000.00 with additional funds for the project allocated from Supervisor Call’s discretionary funds. The addition of Kings Ranch Road to County Maintenance is the first step in the Public/Private Partnership Program and will culminate in the declaring of Kings Ranch Road as a County Highway in a separate Board Action.

In accordance with statute, staff has given notice of this public hearing for two weeks in the designated newspaper.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, the road segment will be scheduled for maintenance and sign installations.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Should the item not be approved, Duquesne Road will remain in the Road Maintenance System and Kings Ranch will not be added to the Road Maintenance System.
