Agenda Item Text:

Approve Contract number 2012-PT-010 between the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Sheriff's Office for the term of  October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012 providing $5,000 in overtime and employee related expenses for the Sheriff's Office to conduct enhanced Speed/Selective Traffic Enforcement throughout Cochise County.

Background:

This contract is an annual event from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. The funding provided by this contract is to allow the Sheriff's Office to conduct speed enforcement details at areas such as school zones, areas with high traffic accident rates, and areas that receive a high degree of citizen complaints regarding speeding vehicles. There are no matching funds associated with this grant. This contract has been reviewed and approved as to form by Ms. Terry Bannon, Deputy County Attorney.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Upon approval the Sheriff's Office will plan and initiate selective speed enforcement at identfied locations, such as school zones, areas with a high traffic accident rate, and areas with a high degree of citizen complaints regarding speeding vehicles.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If not approved, the funding from the Governor's Office of HIghway Safety will not be available for selective speed enforcement details, thus requiring the use of County General Fund monies to accomplish those goals.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Upon completion return both original copies of the contract to the Sheriff's Office so they can be forwarded to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
