Agenda Item Text:
Approve IGA CTR045217 for the Hepatitis A Vaccine Program, between the Arizona Department of Health Services and Cochise Health & Social Services, in the projected amount of $45,000, effective June 26, 2019 through June 25, 2024.
Background:
Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. Although rare, hepatitis A can cause death in some people. Hepatitis A usually spreads when a person unknowingly ingests the virus from objects, food, or drinks contaminated by small, undetected amounts of stool from an infected person. Unvaccinated people who have been exposed recently (within 2 weeks) to the hepatitis A virus should get the hepatitis A vaccine or a shot of immune globulin to prevent severe illness. The best way to prevent hepatitis A is through vaccination with the hepatitis A vaccine.
This IGA will enable CHSS to purchase inventory of the Hep A vaccine from ADHS at the prevailing CDC price, which is about 25% lower than the prevailing market rate that CHSS has been paying.
