Agenda Item Text:
Approve Policy 2231: Attendance During Influenza or Another Viral Pandemic Outbreak, and 2232: Telecommuting, effective March 24, 2020.
Background:
Recent events related to the COVID-19 Pandemic have necessitated the creation of a Pandemic Attendance policy and Telecommuting policy to address organizational concerns. The attached policies are similar to policies created by Pima County and Santa Cruz County. The Pandemic Attendance policy requires employees with flu-like symptoms to stay home. It also temporarily allows for full-time employees with flu-like symptoms without leave balances to request up to 80 hours of leave “debt” that will be paid back by future leave accruals. The intent is to promote public health and protect employees from the spread of any virus with flu-like symptoms. The Telecommuting policy allows Appointing Authorities and Department Directors to approve telecommuting as a reasonable accommodation under ADA, while an employee is on intermittent FMLA, to serve a business need or in the case of a pandemic.
