Adopt Zoning Ordinance 20-09 to approve Docket R-20-02 (Light Pollution), an amendment to the Cochise County Zoning Regulations, Article 16, Light Pollution and Article 23, Enforcement.
Background:
Docket R-20-02 amends Article 16 (Light Pollution) to mandate the use of shielded light in all permanently used lamps not under a roof or overhang within residential uses, improve definitions associated with this Article, and clarify measurement of light trespass. In addition, the amendment also proposes adding the term “outdoor lighting” to Article 23 Enforcement and deleting the stand-alone Light Pollution Enforcement contained in Article 1611. The modifications are intended to better support the purpose of Article 16, specifically as it related to promoting efficient lighting that minimizes man-made light pollution.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The Cochise County Zoning Regulations, Articles 16 and 23, will be amended, as shown in Exhibit A attached to the Ordinance.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The regulations contained with the light pollution code will not be amended.
