Agenda Item Text:
Approve State Grant for Public Defender Training funds, per ARS 12-117, in the amount of $2,000, for the Legal Advocate, effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
Background:
In 1989, the Arizona Legislature enacted ARS 12-117 for the purpose of providing money to the Supreme Court for distribution to county public defenders, and additional offices established for conflict cases in accordance with ARS 11-581, to be used for training purposes.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Approvals respectfully requested.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved, the Legal Advocate will depend solely on the county general fund for the cost of acquiring mandatory continuing legal education credits for attorney staff.
