Agenda Item Text:
Approve State Grant for Public Defender Training funds, per ARS 12-117, in the amount of $3,000, effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
Background:
In 1989 the Arizona Legislature enacted ARS 12-117 for the purpose of providing funds to the Supreme Court for distribution to county public defenders for indigent defense training purposes. The amount the Public Defender is expecting to receive for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 is inlcuded in the budget.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Approvals respectfully requested. Use funding in accordance with the agreement attached hereto.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved, the Public Defender will depend solely on the county general fund for funding for mandatory continuing legal education credits for attorney staff.
