Agenda Item Text:
Approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) CTR059344, Senate Bill 1847 Funding, between the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Cochise Health & Social Services to help address communities affected by drug addition and incarceration, with a one-time disbursement of $91,500, effective for one year from the date of signing by both parties.
Background:
IGA CTR059344 is a fixed price one time payment to be used to address overdose deaths in Cochise County. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) continues to collaborate with stakeholders to reduce overdose deaths through strategies that include targeted naloxone distribution; medication assisted treatment to care; public awareness campaigns; support for the (Opioid Assistance and Referral) OAR Line; support for local overdose fatality review (OFR) programs; and, support for local community prevention programs.
CCHSS will address this important public health issue for our communities affected by drug addiction and incarceration by utilizing the funding in the following approved ways:
CCHSS will address this important public health issue for our communities affected by drug addiction and incarceration by utilizing the funding in the following approved ways:
- Bus passes for individuals receiving services from Cochise Harm Reduction, and for those who are released with a linkage to care plan through HOPE, Inc.,
- Stipends for Overdose Fatality Review Board members,
- Syringes and safe use supplies to be distributed through Cochise Harm Reduction,
- Supplies for on-site wound care,
- Tests for Hepatitis C screenings, and
- Personal drug equipment & disposal backpacks to be distributed through Cochise Harm Reduction.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The signed IGA will be sent to ADHS to be fully executed. Once a PO from ADHS is in place we will begin expensing the funds.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
CCHSS will not have resources to provide the interventions identified above.
