Agenda Item Text:
Approve Agreement DBFFY23L22CH31302 between the Arizona Department of Administration and Cochise County, effective October 1, 2022 through June 30, 2025, for one-time payments to line-level deputies and detention officers.
Background:
According to the agreement, Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) shall provide funding for a $10,000 one time payment to line-level deputies and detention officers employed by Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) as of May 1st, 2022. CCSO shall distribute the payment to eligible employees in equal quarterly installments over two years. In addition, this funding will provide for a one time recruitment payment not to exceed $5,000 per new hire, the amount of which to be determined at the discretion of the Sheriff, for line level deputies and detention officers that CCSO hired into the agency from May 1, 2022 until April 30, 2023. ADOA shall provide up to a total amount not to exceed $1,390,000 for reimbursement to Cochise County for costs associated with these activities from Border Security Fund established by Arizona Revised Statute section 26-105.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Cochise County Sheriff's Office Finance Staff will work with County Finance and Administration Staff to disperse funds to Cochise County Sheriff's Office employees who qualify.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Retention and recruiting funds from the Border Security Fund for Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) will be lost. Cochise County does not have funds budgeted for CCSO retention and recruiting activities.
