Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve Amendment 1 to Agreement M22-0051 between the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA), Cochise County and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), effective October 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024, previously approved by the Board on December 13, 2022.
Background:
The amendment alters the way DEMA disburses funding to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). CCSO patrol division is staffed with six (6) individual squads of deputies working throughout the county. Pursuits occur in every area of the county, and it would be impossible to predict where a problem will surface or dedicate pursuit intervention-equipped trucks into a specific area at a specific time. The only solution would be to issue two trucks per patrol squad, thereby increasing the likelihood of a pursuit intervention truck being in the area to bring a pursuit to a conclusion. The other three vehicles will be disseminated upon the smuggling trends/personnel issues as needed.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Once approved, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office will begin purchasing and outfitting the vehicles authorized for purchase.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office would lose the opportunity to prevent or deter pursuits from taking place, thereby causing unnecessary risks to our citizens and those who visit our great county
