Agenda Item Text:
Approve Project M21-4621, a change order to previously-approved Contract 21-15-FAC-01, with Pueblo Mechanical and Controls, Inc., for the demolition of an existing 800 amp multiple distribution panel (MDP) and the installation of a new 800 amp MDP at 100 Quality Hill in Bisbee, in the amount of $33,031.26, effective May 9, 2023.
Background:
This is a change order to a capital improvement project already approved by the Board of Supervisors on March 23, 2021. This is for a sizable electrical component for the Courthouse HVAC project. This is coming before the Board for approval because this change order is in excess of $30,000.
In late March 2023, the Service Entrance Section (SES) panel was replaced. This is an exterior panel outside the courthouse. When crews were prepping to install the new SES panel, they went into the basement of the courthouse to try to shut down power from the main distribution panel and realized the deteriorated condition of the main distribution panel (MDP). The main distribution panel has several large breakers. These large breakers feed the smaller sub-panel breaker boxes located on the various floors of the courthouse. The large breakers in this MDP are old and no longer manufactured. Their current ability to fully function is questionable, therefore replacement of the MDP is highly recommended.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Staff will coordinate the project with Pueblo Mechanical and Controls, Inc.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The current MDP would not be replaced, causing further deterioration and increasing the chances of total failure.
