Agenda Item Text:

Approve Amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) among Cochise College, Sierra Vista Police Department, and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office to continue operating the Southeast Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (SEALETA), effective July 24, 2023 through May 31, 2024, which was originally approved by the Board of Supervisors on June 6, 2023, to fix an error in section 8 on page 2.

Background:

An error was located in the IGA approved on 6/6/23.  The issue is with section 8, page 2.  It should read –
"8.   COLLEGE shall provide access to on campus housing (fall semester only) for up to 24 participants at a rate of $700 per participant (plus a $32 laundry fee) and a meal plan at a rate of $2,280 for meals Monday through Thursday (a lunch only plan for traveling recruits will be provided at a rate of $760) for the duration of the program."

The discrepancy is minor.  Cochise College, Sierra Vista Police Department and Sheriff's Office are aware of the mistake and support the amendment.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, the three entities will move forward with the two upcoming academy classes to train recruits to be Arizona certified law enforcement officers.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

It will be detrimental to local law enforcement agencies regarding the hiring and training of potential officers. It would also force local agencies to seek outside training academies for their officers at a greater cost to the respective agency.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Return one fully executed original IGA to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, Sierra Vista Police Department and Cochise College.
