Agenda Item Text:

Approve Agreement between Cochise Health & Social Services and Cochise County Community College District for clinical practicum and/or internship/externship educational experiences to nursing and allied health students, effective August 1, 2023, through July 30, 2028.

Background:

Cochise College provides inclusive and accessible educational opportunities supporting social responsibility, community engagement, meaningful careers, and lifelong learning. The nursing and allied health programs at Cochise College offer a variety of degrees and certificates to enter a career in the healthcare field. Nursing and allied health students require clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings.

CCHSS provides a safe learning environment and hands-on clinical experience for nursing and allied health students to meet the requirements associated with their degree or certificate. Our partnership with Cochise College has been in place for several years and has demonstrated success with internal recruiting and retention.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

Your approval is respectfully requested.

Please forward signed copies of the agreements to Elizabeth Robinson, Interim Health Director, Megan Kennedy, Division Director Detention Health Services, and Maira Ibarra, Division Director Clinical Services.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Not approving this MOU can negatively impact community partnerships with healthcare organizations, limit clinical experience of nursing and allied health students, and affect recruiting and retention opportunities for CCHSS.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Please forward signed copies of the agreements to Maira Ibarra, Division Director Clinical Services. Maira Ibarra will be responsible for forwarding the signed copies to Cochise College for final signature. Once fully executed, Maira Ibarra will send one of the copies to the BOS.
