Approve new Human Resources Policy 2236, Leave of Absence Without Pay, as written in the attachment, effective August 8, 2023. 

Background:

This policy addresses a form of employee leave previously not documented in policy. An approval process for leave of absence without pay is outlined and a limit on this form of leave is established. In addition, it informs the employee of benefits eligibility during this time, as well as requirements for continuation of benefits.  

This policy was presented for review and feedback to Department Directors, Elected Officials and all county employees. The policy was amended to conform with feedback received and approval is now requested.

Place Policy 2236 under Human Resources Policies on the County website. 

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

Staff would move forward without an established process, and employees would not be aware of how to have this form of leave approved, it's limitations or the impact on employee benefits.
