Adopt Resolution 23-25 to designate Elfrida, AZ as a Colonia, consistent with the objective criteria listed in the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act of 1990, effective on September 26, 2023.
Background:
Elfrida, located within Cochise County, requests to be designated as a Colonia because of its lack of adequate potable water supply, adequate sewer system, and/or decent, safe, and sanitary housing. This designation is necessary before certain state and federal funds can be made available to improve infrastructure systems and housing within this community. Cochise County has the authority to designate Elfrida a Colonia pursuant to the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act of 1990.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
The Department will inform Elfrida that it has been designated a Colonia by Cochise County.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If Elfrida is not designated a Colonia, it cannot seek and receive certain state and federal funds to improve its infrastructure systems and housing within its borders.
