Agenda Item Text:

Approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) CTR067930, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) Program between the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Cochise County Health & Social Services (CHSS) in the amount of $653,741 for WIC and $63,824 for BFPC, for the period of October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024.

Background:

CCHSS has offered WIC services for over 30 years to pregnant and postpartum women, infants, and children up to the age of 5. The assigned caseload for FFY 24 is 3,160.  The overall goal of the WIC and Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program is to increase food security, and reduce hunger by providing income eligible participants access to nourishing food and nutrition and breastfeeding education.

This is a grant-funded, cost reimbursement program from the ADHS in the annual amount of $717,565. The IGA supports wages, EREs and expenses for 12 positions.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):

If approved, CCHSS will continue providing WIC services to Cochise County residents.

Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:

If not approved, the EIC services would not be provided.  The WIC Program has provided nutrition services to families in Cochise County for over 30 years, and we would like to continue providing these valuable services.

To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:

Your approvals are respectfully requested. Send signed IGA to CCHSS, Suzanne Hagle, Prevention Services Division Director.
