Approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of Benson and Cochise County for Animal Shelter Services in Benson, AZ, in the amount of $63,000 per fiscal year, with the option to renew for three successive fiscal years, effective May 7, 2024.
Background:
The Board has directed staff to pursue an agreement with Benson as the County needs to provide animal shelter service in the unincorporated areas around Benson. To further this effort, the County contributed $48,571 to the City to expand the shelter capacity for the intake of County Animal Control Officer impounds. The attached agreement sets forth the terms and conditions for the County to utilize the Benson animal shelter, at a cost of $63,000 per fiscal year.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
County ACOs will begin dropping animals off at the Benson shelter, allowing for another option to Willcox in the northern part of the county.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
County ACOs will continue to be limited to only Willcox and Douglas for impounds.
