Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve an Intergovermental Agreeement (IGA) for Juvenile Detention Center Education Program Services between Pinal County and Cochise County, effective July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, with automatic one-year renewal for up to 5 years.
Background:
There is an existing agreement between Pinal and Cochise Counties for transporting and housing juvenile offenders, because the detention center closed in Cochise County in 2020. There hasn't been an IGA between the respective County School Superintendents that identifies the responsibilities of each in educating the juvenile students. This will correct that by clarifying the responsibilities of the Pinal County School Superintendent in conjunction with the Cochise County School Superintendent to facilitate successful transition back into their districts of residence.
Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If approved, the IGA will be forwarded back to the Pinal County Superintendent for the required signatures at their end.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
This IGA seeks to clarify the responsibilities for educating juvenile offenders being transported and housed in Pinal County facilities, which is already occurring.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Please return a signed copy of the IGA to the County School Superintendent's Office
