Approve Amendment Five of Contract No. 020129DC, between the Arizona Department of Corrections and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office providing for County Detention Officers attending the Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA) to receive on-line training in addition to class room training with no change in costs and no change in the term of the existing contract.
Background:
The Sheriff's Office has contracted with the Arizona Department of Corrections (AZ DOC) for several years to allow Cochise County Detention Officers to attend the AZ DOC Correctional Officers Training Academy (COTA) in Tucson. The course of training seven weeks in duration. The amendment, Amendment Five, changes verbage to provide for Sheriff's Officer personnel to also participate in on-line training which brings the course to the equivalent of nine weeks. There are no changes regarding costs or to the term of the contract.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Upon approval, Detention Officers attending COTA will begin participating in on-line training along with the classroom cirriculum.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
If not approved, Cochise County personnel may not be included in the on-line training portion at the COTA academy, thus diminishing their training opportunity and experience.
