Information
Agenda Item Text:
Approve revised Human Resources Policy 2213, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Procedure 2213.1 Family and Medical Leave Act, as written in the attachments, effective November 12, 2024.
Background:
The county follows federal law, providing qualified employees with up to 480 hours of job-protected unpaid leave for medical or military related reasons. In an effort to clarify and streamline processes, Human Resources is seeking approval of amendments to Policy 2213 Family and Medical Leave and Procedure 2213.1 Family and Medical Leave.
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides 480 hours of job-protected unpaid leave to employees who need to be absent for qualifying medical, pregnancy, new-child bonding or military related reasons. The amendments presented for approval align the policy and procedure with current Human Resources practices. In addition, it removes the option of an extension of FMLA hours, which is in the best interest of the county. Versions of these documents with track changes and track changes accepted are included to ensure transparency of amendments.

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
Replace Policy 2213. Family Medical Leave Act and Procedure 2213.1 Family Medical Leave Act on the Human Resources policy page. Send a countywide email informing of the updated policy and procedure.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
The policy and procedure will not accurately reflect current processes.
To BOS Staff: Document Disposition/Follow-Up:
Inform Human Resources of approval or denial
