Docket Number (If applicable):
Agenda Item Text:
Approve policy/procedure for the establishment of a Merit Award policy/procedure for Fleet and Heavy Fleet Departments.
Background:
Fleet and Heavy Fleet have entered into agreements to provide fleet maintenance services for public safety vehicles for several law enforcement/ public safety agencies in the County, thus ensuring the public is well served by having regularly maintained and reliable vehicles. These agreements also allow these agencies to forego establishing a department specifically to perform these services, thereby eliminating an additional tax payer burden. These agencies currently include:
• City of Bisbee Police / Fire / Public Works / Emergency Generators
• San Jose Fire Department
• Naco Fire Department
• Tombstone Marshals Office
• Chiricahua National Monument Law Enforcement
• Ft. Huachuca Military Police
The Fleet and Heavy Fleet Department Directors are proposing that some of the additional revenue generated through these agreements be used to establish a Merit Award Fund for the employees in those departments. (Please see attached back-up information for specifics).

Department's Next Steps (if approved):
If policy/procedure is approved, the Department Directors would prepare recommendations to present to the Merit Award System Board.
Impact of NOT Approving/Alternatives:
Loss of opportunity to award employees for ideas and procedures resulting in cost-savings to the county or in an improvement of County operations in the public interest.
