REQUESTED ACTION:
MOTION TO APPROVE a First Amendment to Agreement Between the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization and Holland & Knight, LLP for Federal Advocacy Services for an Additional Amount Not to Exceed $100,000
WHAT THIS ACTION ACCOMPLISHES:
Approval of this item will allow the MPO to extend the contract with its federal advocacy team of Holland & Knight for an additional year (until January 30, 2022) at a cost of $100,000 per year per the original agreement. Extension of the contract will continue to provide the MPO and its member governments with federal advocacy services and enable them to have their interests represented in Washington D.C. As is the case with all matters concerning advocacy, local contribution dollars would be utilized in order to provide these services.
SUMMARY EXPLANATION/BACKGROUND:
Over the last three years, Holland & Knight has performed beyond expectations in its role as the MPO's federal advocacy team. With the current Agreement for these services set to expire on January 30, 2021, the MPO is requesting an extension to provide it and its member governments with continued federal advocacy services and enable them to have their interests represented in Washington D.C. Very soon, the new administration will begin crafting a new transportation funding bill as well as instituting new policies which will directly affect MPO programs. Having a voice in Washington D.C. will help overcome legislative and policy changes which may negatively impact the Organization. As is the case with all matters concerning advocacy, local contribution dollars would be utilized in order to provide these services.

Per the original agreement, this extension will be for an additional amount of $100,000 ($100,000 per year for a total of $400,000 for the four years). MPO and consultant staff will be available at the upcoming meeting to address any questions and comments.
