MOTION TO RECOMMEND BROWARD MPO APPROVE Amendments to the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021 - 2025 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP):

Approval of this action will add the seven projects described below to the adopted FFY 2021 - 2025 TIP. No other projects in the TIP will be affected by the proposed Amendments.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is requesting to add "Intersection Lighting Retrofit Improvement" projects to the adopted FFY 2021 - 2025 TIP. The projects involve converting the existing lighting fixtures to LED lighting and adding new additional LED lighting fixtures at multiple intersections to improve intersection lighting and enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety. Potential intersection locations for each TIP amendment are detailed below and will be evaluated by FDOT based on funding availability/needs as well as site feasibility (i.e., whether intersection lighting could be feasibly retrofitted depending on site conditions and other factors).

In addition to the above projects, the FDOT is also requesting to add one intersection lighting update project and one rail signal safety project to the adopted FFY 2021-2025 TIP. Details for the two projects are presented below.
 

• The purpose of this project is to upgrade the existing lighting along SR-814/Atlantic BLVD from E of Turnpike to NW 31st Avenue to current standards in order to provide adequate illumination to reduce intersection crashes. The project includes: (a) Replacing (19) existing HPS cobra head luminaires in existing poles with led luminaires of 330w, 29487 lumens, 4k-5k CCT and roadway type IV distribution; (b) Installing (19) standard poles with led luminaires of 330w,4k-5k CCT, 50 foot mounting height and roadway type IV distribution; (c) Installing (3) utility conflict poles with led luminaires of roadway type IV distribution.

• The purpose of this project is to install safety upgrades to crossing South Florida Rail Corridor at Oakland Park Blvd.  The Signal Safety Upgrades task includes hardware, installation, Construction, In-Service Testing, and As-In-Service Plans For (4) New, Fully-Furnished Entrance Gate Assemblies; (1) NAS MDA II; (2) AC Surge Protectors; And (1) XP4 Crossing Controller.

For additional details on the requested Amendments, please see the letters from FDOT in the Attachment. No other projects in the TIP will be affected by the above Amendments.

MPO staff recommends approval of the proposed TIP Amendments from FDOT. Questions and comments will be addressed at the meeting.
