TITLE:
Consideration of Appointments: Board of Adjustment.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Make two appointment to terms expiring May 2018.
Executive Summary:
The Board of Adjustment is made up of seven citizens, and holds hearings on requests for variances and appeals of decisions by the Zoning Administrator. The Board does not have the authority to change zoning law. There are currently three seats available, but only two applicants at this time. It is important to fill vacancies on the Board quickly so as to allow it to continue meeting on a regular basis.
The two applications on file for consideration by the Council are as follows:
Pat Loven (new applicant)
Greg Parker (new applicant)

Financial Impact:
These are voluntary positions and there is no budgetary impact to the City of Flagstaff.
Connection to Council Goal and/or Regional Plan:
There is no Council goal that specifically addresses appointments to Boards and Commissions; however, boards and commissions do provide input and recommendations based on City Council goals that may pertain to the board or commission work plan.

Options and Alternatives:
1) Appoint two Board members: By appointing members at this time, the Board will be near full membership and able to continue to meet and provide recommendations to the City Council.

Community Benefits and Considerations:
The City's boards, commissions, and committees were created to foster public participation and input and to encourage Flagstaff citizens to take an active role in city government.

INFORM: The vacancies are posted on the City's website and individual recruitment and mention of the openings by Board members and City staff has occurred, informing others of these vacancies through word of mouth.
