TITLE:

Moving the Needle on City Climate and Housing Goals

DESIRED OUTCOME:

This is an informational update to the City Council and Flagstaff community.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Over the past three years, the Flagstaff City Council declared two influential emergencies: the Climate Emergency (June 26, 2020) and the Housing Emergency (December 1, 2020).  These emergencies facilitated the adoption of aggressive plans to accelerate action.  The resulting Carbon Neutrality Plan and 10-Year Housing Plan are extensive and far-reaching frameworks for achieving the goals outlined in the respective plans.

This informational update is intended to provide the City Council and Flagstaff community with a snapshot of the work that is needed over the next two years to support both emergencies.

INFORMATION:

The Carbon Neutrality Plan and The 10-Year Housing Plan are extensive and far-reaching frameworks for action. Significant work by the Flagstaff community and City staff has been put in motion to implement these plans. Staff is working to create a strong and sustainable foundation for action that better aligns City goals with City procedures, City code, and internal collaborations while honoring the needs and voices of the Flagstaff community.

This update is intended to highlight and acknowledge gaps and outline steps that City staff will take over the next two years. This foundational work is critical to the success of both plans.
