Background and History:

Following the Pipeline Fire in 2022, the City of Flagstaff completed several flood-mitigation projects to manage increased post-wildfire runoff from the burn scar.  However, areas along Meade Lane continue to experience significant localized flooding, particularly during monsoon-season storm events.  The drainage infrastructure in this corridor was undersized prior to the Pipeline Fire, and the additional runoff produced post-fire watershed conditions has highlighted the inadequacy of the drainage system along this street.  As a result, the area continues to experience recurring ponding, sediment depositions, and reduced roadway reliability.

Flooding along Meade Lane has been severe at times, generating substantial public concern and sustained interest from residents seeking long-term mitigation.  Addressing these long-standing drainage deficiencies has become a priority within the broader system of post-fire flood-response and neighborhood-resliency improvements.
