- Request for approval for demolition of 414 Avenue D
- Submitted For:
- Rebecca Grohall
SUBJECT:
Approval to proceed with demolition of 414 Avenue D.
SUMMARY:
At the time the former Kings Inn was acquired in 2007, it was envisioned that the FPRA would be able to complete a land assemblage project and acquire land to the east or the west of the property. This would package the Kings Inn, a structure in seriously deteriorated condition with no parking available, with vacant property and create a larger offering for redevelopment. Unfortunately, the land assembly was never realized (see FPRA Annual Report 2012 excerpt in attachments). While the City has tested the waters with a sale for this site, the obsolete conditions of this property have made it challenging to sell on its own. Therefore, Staff recommends proceeding with removing this structure and then placing the property back on the market. In the past few weeks, Staff has been in contact with the representative of the property to the east to discuss opportunities to work together. This property is part of the Lincoln Park Historic District, and would go before the Historic Preservation Board also. If this item is approved, the City will solicit quotes and follow the appropriate procurement process.
