Department Head:
SUBJECT:
Agreement between the City of Hawthorne and American Wholesale Lighting for Police Department Lighting Project
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the agreement with American Wholesale Lighting and authorize the City Manager or his designee to enter into and execute the agreement.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Hawthorne’s Public Works Staff solicited proposals for lighting upgrades at the Hawthorne Police Department. The facility, built in 2002, spans approximately 89,424 square feet and currently utilizes a combination of tube fluorescent, compact fluorescent, and high-intensity discharge lighting. To improve energy efficiency, visibility, and operational control, the City intends to contract with a qualified lighting contractor to furnish and install new LED lighting and advanced lighting controls. These controls will include manual switches, occupancy sensors, dimmer switches, and lighting panel circuit breakers to optimize functionality and energy savings.
The Request for Proposals was published for one month, and the City received submissions from six service providers. After a thorough review and extensive team discussions, American Wholesale Lighting was determined to be the most qualified and cost-effective contractor for this project. Their extensive experience in commercial lighting, combined with a strong reputation for quality and professionalism, set them apart from the other five service providers.
American Wholesale Lighting demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the project’s scope by including detailed photometric layouts and fixture schedules in their proposal. These elements highlight their technical expertise, meticulous planning, and commitment to delivering a well-executed project that meets the City’s needs. Their attention to detail and record in similar large-scale projects ensure that the Hawthorne Police Department will receive high-quality, energy-efficient lighting upgrades tailored to its operational requirements.
