CAPTION
Authorization and Approval to accept the 2010 COPS Hiring Program Award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) for the amount of $2,099,084.00.
BACKGROUND
Grant will fund salary and fringe benefits for thirteen (13) officers each for a three (3) year period.
Hidalgo County will be required to retain the positions for at least one full local budget cycle beyond the local budget year in which the federal funding concluded.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:
Under the 2010 COPS Hiring Program, no local match is required. The COPS Office is funding 100 percent of the allowable items approved in your Financial Clearance Memorandum. (Any costs higher than entry-level must be paid by your agency with local funds )(Pg 28 of the 2010 COPS Hiring Program Grant Owner's Manual).Hidalgo County will be required to retain the positions for at least one full local budget cycle beyond the local budget year in which the federal funding concluded.
Grantees must retain all sworn officer positions awarded under the CHP grant for a minimum of 12 months following the 36-month federal funding period.
