Technician II position, slot # 200-001-0030, Grade 6 Step 1, was approved by commissioners’ court on its meeting of July 13, 2010. However, as per the Classification and Compensation Pay Plan, when a new position is created the step assigned must be step one (1) under the corresponding grade, assuming that a new employee will occupy the position. In this case, the department did not hire a new employee but demoted a current employee to the new position. The employee demoted was placed on step 5 based on his prior position's step, employee was demoted from a Grade 8 Step 5 to a Grade 6 Step 5. The salary of the position is in accordance with the Hidalgo County Grade and Step Salary Schedule approved by commissioners’ court on February 15, 2010.
