SUMMARY
City Charter provides for fillng the vacant Mayor position in Article II, Section 15.
Recommendation
Recognize the vacancy in the Office of Mayor, elect a Councilmember that is qualified to serve as Mayor for the remainder of the term and direct the Deputy City Clerk to swear the Councilmember in as Mayor. (Laura Jara, Deputy City Clerk)

There is no fiscal impact for this action.
BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS ACTIONS
Article II, Section 15, D identifies when a vacancy in the office of Mayor shall exist when a death of the Mayor has occurred. Mayor Lord passed away on December 12, 2021. Additionally, Article II, Section 15 of the City Charter states "The Council shall, by a majority vote of the Council, elect a Councilmember that is a qualified to serve as Mayor for the remainder of the term."
The Councilmember selected will complete the term of Mayor which will expire on December 31, 2022.
