STAFF ANALYSIS
Per A.R.S. § 16-642, the city is required to canvass the vote of the election not less than six (6) days nor more than twenty (20) days following the election.
A.R.S. § 9-821.01 and Goodyear City Charter, Article IX, Section 6, both set forth that a candidate who receives a majority of votes in the primary is declared elected.
Votes cast for Mayor were as follows:
Joe Pizzillo received more than the 50% plus and is to be considered elected at this Primary election.
A majority is calculated as 7,705. That number was calculated by taking all votes cast for valid candidates, dividing that by three (total number of seats to be filled) and dividing that by 2, and rounding up to the next whole number.
Based on the calculations, P. Wally Campbell, Vicki Gillis, and Brannon Hampton will be declared elected. Since all seats will be filled, the city's participation in the General Election can be canceled.
