RECOMMENDATION
Approve Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for law enforcement services in the Sonoran Valley. (Art Miller, Interim Chief of Police)
FISCAL IMPACT
The cost of the MCSO Sonoran Valley IGA is $350,127.70, which has been included as a part of the Police department's budget for FY2025.
BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS ACTIONS
The city has been in an agreement with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department to provide law enforcement services since 2008. This agreement allows MCSO to provide patrol and provide emergency response to the Goodyear residents of Mobile and the surrounding areas. The current contract expires on June 30, 2024.
STAFF ANALYSIS
The city does not have the required road infrastructure to allow for the police department staffing to respond to calls for service in a timely manner. After evaluating current staffing and the response time to the Sonoran Valley area, the department determined that the IGA with MCSO for law enforcement services in the Sonoran Valley should continue. This IGA allows MCSO to provide patrols and faster response to the needs of the residents of the area.
