| TO: | HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBERS |
| FROM: | JIM SADRO, CITY MANAGER By: Gabriella Yap, Assistant City Manager |
| SUBJECT: | APPROVE THE ANNUAL SOFTWARE LICENSE RENEWAL OF TWO PALO ALTO NETWORK FIREWALLS IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,507.37
|
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council authorize the City Manager to renew the software license with Palo Alto (PA) Network through Dell Computers for a total cost of $60,507.37.
DISCUSSION:
The City of La Habra (City) and the La Habra Police Department (LHPD) use two separate Palo Alto Networks (PA) firewall devices for network security, both of which have been in service for the past nine years and are upgraded regularly with enhanced security features. The City and LHPD networks utilize the PA firewall and cybersecurity solutions to safeguard the City and LHPD's information systems and infrastructure, ensuring that essential cybersecurity measures are in place to help protect critical City systems. Dell Computers is the authorized reseller and license administrator for PA.
Continuing both services is essential to maintaining the City's current security measures and protecting them against evolving cyber threats. Renewing through Dell Computers will ensure uninterrupted access to critical security updates, threat protection, and technical support. The renewal is for a one-year term, and will cover all necessary software licenses. This purchase is exempt from bidding requirements based on Section 4.20.070(E) of the La Habra Municipal Code which allows for the acquisition of information technology, hardware, software, computers, telecommunications equipment, cabling, installation, support or similar electronic equipment or products through negotiated pricing or informal bidding.
Therefore, staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to renew the software licenses with PA in an amount not to exceed $60,507.37.
