AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY/SERVICE TO MAKE APPLICATION TO THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (ODOT) ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF LORAIN FOR 90/10 FUNDING FOR PLANNED SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ON BROADWAY IN THE CITY OF LORAIN.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has established the Highway Safety Program, which is accepting applications for funding to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety. ODOT has made this money available to local municipalities. It has been determined that the Broadway corridor from 9th Street to 28th Street in the City of Lorain is in need of safety improvements. It has further been determined that the areas of improvement fall within the parameters of ODOT’s need and demand qualifications. The City of Lorain intends to make application to apply for these funds. The safety improvements in the City of Lorain may include installation of lighting, signage, curb ramps, sidewalk, and related safety appurtenances. The project has an estimated cost not to exceed $2,000,000. The City, if successful in its request, will contribute by paying or obtaining matching funds in an amount not to exceed $200,000.00. The City, if successful in its request, will work cooperatively, including executing cooperative agreements if necessary, with all affected local, regional, state and federal agencies. The City, if successful, will abide by all ODOT policies.
