AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE:

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SAFETY/SERVICE DIRECTOR TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDING ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF LORAIN FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 2028 SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SRTS) PROGRAM.

PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:

In the State of Ohio, the United States Congress has set aside monies for Safe Routes to School Projects through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). ODOT has made this money available to local municipalities. The City of Lorain intends to make application to apply for these funds. The City of Lorain’s 2028 Safe Routes to School Program will fund the installation of new pedestrian improvements and the repair and replacement of deficient sidewalk, curb ramps, and crosswalks near schools in Lorain. The project has an estimated cost not to exceed $500,000.00. The 2028 Safe Routes to School Program requires no local match.
