Motion adopting Mankato’s Climate Action Plan.

Motion adopting the Climate Action Plan.
Summary:
The City of Mankato secured funding through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for a Local Climate Action Grant to develop plans to increase climate adaptation and resilience for the city. This project is intended to create an evidence-based roadmap for strengthening Mankato’s resilience to climate change. The recommendations in the plan will require many different actions, including review of policies, modifications to operations, acquisition of new tools and equipment, and commitment to the overall goal of increasing resilience to the changes in our climate.
As an organization, we are very proud of the work we have already accomplished and incorporated into our routine operations. A list of those items is presented in Section 1.1 on pages 1-4 of the plan. The plan contains more than 80 recommendations for 17 areas of the city. A comprehensive list of the recommendations is contained in Appendix B of the plan. If the plan is adopted, then staff will start to prioritize the recommendations and develop action plans for each of the recommendations. We will be working with the plan for several years and will continue to incorporate the work into our operations.
Staff recommend adoption of this plan.
