Motion

ITEM:

Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding the City of San Luis Fire Department's request for FY2015-2016 budget authority to purchase a new fire truck.  (Hank Green)

SUMMARY:

San Luis Engine #1 (SLE1) has required several, major maintenance and repairs during the recent three years, the most recent was a complete motor replacement in April, 2015. SLE1 received major damage on June 8, 2015, the result of an electrical fire.

SLFD is requesting to purchase a new PIERCE fire engine from Hughes Fire Equipment (Arizona Pierce Dealership) for $652,914.06.

This purchase is in accordance with City of San Luis Purchasing Code and procedures, Section 36.09, Cooperative Purchasing. The City of San Luis Fire Department and Hugheiss Fire Equipment will be utilizing the Houston-Galveston Area Council's pricing and purchasing services.
The City of San Luis is in dire need of a reliable front-line fire engine.  SLE1 has been a mechanical and maintenance challenge during recent years.  Our intent was to retain our existing SLE1 as a reserve/back-up apparatus with limited response activity with the purchase of the requested engine.  Without this requested apparatus, SLFD will be required to respond with only one rated apparatus.  Continued operation with only one fire engine will negatively impact our operations, response and on scene abilities, as well as our Insurance Services Office rating.

RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:

I MOVE TO APPROVE PURCHASE OF A NEW PIERCE FIRE ENGINE IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $652,915.00.
