ITEM:
Discussion and possible action on any all matters regarding Resolution 1100 of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona approving and adopting the inmate work intergovernmental agreement with the Arizona Department of Corrections. (Kay Macuil)
SUMMARY:
The City of San Luis Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation from time to time has a need for additional labor force to support maintenance of City properties and construction projects (typically road litter clean up and parks landscaping maintenance). The Intergovernmental Agreement with the Arizona Department of Corrections for work crews through the local Arizona State Prison Complex expires at the end of June. Staff wishes to renew the Intergovernmental Agreement for a five-year term. The Proposed Intergovernmental Agreement and resolution are attached with the agenda packet and have been approved by the Office of the City Attorney.
RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:
I MOVE TO APPROVE AN ADOPT THE RENEWAL OF THE INMATE WORK INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF SAN LUIS AND THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS NUMBERED 15-196-20 FOR A TERM OF FIVE (5) YEARS .

The City is not obligated to use the inmate work force. The contract allows the City to use the inmate work for if it wants to do so.
There is a cost of fifty cents ($0.50) per hour per inmate for work performed with inmate labor.
The City provides generally; equipment, supervision, mileage for work crew transportation and liability insurance.
