ITEM:
Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Resolution No. 1099. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona authorizing the San Luis Police Department submission of grant application in the 2015 Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program under the U.S. Department of Justice. (Acting Chief of Police Victor Figueroa)
SUMMARY:
It is the City of San Luis Police Department intent to apply for the 2015 COPS Hiring Program grant through the U.S. Department of Justice. Funds can be use to hire career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. The COPS Hiring Program will cover up to 75% of the approved entry-level salaries and fringe benefits of each newly hired officer over the three (3) year grant period with a minimum of 25% local cash match requirement.
RECOMMENDATION / SUGGESTED MOTION:
I MOVE TO APPROVE AND ADOPT RESOLUTION No. 1099 FOR SUBMISSION OF THE GRANT APPLICATION IN THE 2015 COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES HIRING PROGRAM UNDER THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.

FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT:
If authorize to submit application to FY 2015 CHP grant, the grant will provide up to 75 percent of the approved entry level salaries and fringe benefits of full-time officers for a 36-month grant period with a minimum 25 percent local cash match requirement.
