ITEM:

Discussion and possible action on any and all matters regarding Resolution No. 1151. A resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Luis, Arizona to receive funding for payroll expenses for an officer as a form of reimbursement by approving an Intergovernmental Agreement and authorizing execution of Gang & Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission State Gang Task Force between the State of Arizona through the Department of Public Safety and the City of San Luis, Arizona through the San Luis Police Department. (Craig Higgins, Chief of Police)

SUMMARY:

The San Luis Police Department is requesting approval to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) to have an officer assigned to the Gang & Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission (GIITEM) State Gang Task Force. By having a San Luis Police Officer in the  GITTEM's task force, our efforts to enhance law enforcement services concerning the criminal activities of street gangs will improve. As our community is growing, the risk of more gang activity increases. In cooperation with DPS, the San Luis Police Department (SLPD) will have more tools to work diligently in dismantling any and all gang activity that try to operate within our community.  DPS agrees to reimburse the SLPD for seventy-five percent (75%) of salary and benefits, as well as overtime and a DPS department vehicle to one SLPD Officer. The SLPD will be responsible for the remaining twenty-five percent (25%).
