Approve an Exemption For a Gambling License for Wounded Warriors Guide Service

The attached application is from the Wounded Warriors Guide Service for exemption from a lawful gambling license to hold a fund-raising raffle at Game Fair on August 18, 2013.

Wounded Warriors Guide Service is a cost free guide service founded by veterans for veterans.  The Wounded Warriors Guide Service provides waterfowl hunting opportunities for vets that have been wounded serving our nation.
 
Wounded Warriors Guide Service meets all of the requirements which allow tham to remain exempt from licensing, primarily from the standpoint that commodities to be raffled are greater than $1,500 but less than $50,000 for the calendar year.

Approval requires nothing more than a motion followed by a letter to the Gambling Control Board, while if the request is denied, a formal resolution for denial would need to be prepared and submitted to the Gambling Control Board.

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the exemption from a lawful gambling license for the Wounded Warriors Guide Service to hold a raffle at Game Fair on August 18, 2013.

Motion to recommend City Council approve the exemption from a lawful gambling license for the Wounded Warriors Guide Service to hold a raffle at Game Fair on August 18, 2013 and authorize staff to submit a letter to the Gambling Control Board stating approval.
