Approve Entering into a Security Agreement between the City of Ramsey and Local Government Information Systems (LOGIS) for Interagency Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)

Purpose/Background:

Purpose:  To enter into an agreement with Local Government Information Systems (LOGIS) defining security protocols and responsibilities for access to Criminal Justice Information Services.   

Background:  The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requires law enforcement agencies that receive criminal justice data such as : criminal histories, national crime information center data, warrants, stolen vehicle files, etc. to comply with security protocols established in the FBI CJIS Security Policy.

The Ramsey Police Department receives Criminal Justice Information Services data.  LOGIS provides IT and network infrastructure support to several municipalities and government entities including the Ramsey Police Department.  LOGIS staff are very familiar and compliant with FBI CJIS security protocols.

The attached agreement defines the responsibilities of both the city of Ramsey and LOGIS staff in adhering to CJIS security policy.  This agreement is required by the FBI CJIS for access to criminal justice data.

Recommendation:

Enter into the attached agreement with LOGIS reaffirming security protocols for access to the FBI CJIS data are being followed by the Ramsey Police Department and LOGIS.

Action:

Motion by Council authorizing staff to enter into the attached agreement with LOGIS, reaffirming security protocols for access to the FBI CJIS data are being followed by the Ramsey Police Department and LOGIS.
