Approve Exemption for a Gambling License for Anoka County Pheasants Forever

Purpose:  The State Gambling Board requires a city to give approval to a non-profit organization for a gambling event that is located within its city limits by acknowledging this approval by signing off on an application for exempt permit.

The attached application is from the non-profit Anoka County Pheasants Forever for exemption from a lawful gambling license to hold a fund-raising raffle at Game Fair on August 7-9 and August 14-16, 2015.

The Anoka County Pheasants Forever organization is committed to the preservation of upland bird habitat and the conservation of many other natural habitats, including wetland, forest and farm.

The Anoka County Pheasants Forever meets all of the requirements which allow them to remain exempt from licensing, primarily from the the standpoint that commodities to be raffled are valued at less than $50,000 in a calendar year.
 

Staff recommends that Council approve the exemption from a lawful gambling license for Anoka County Pheasants Forever to hold a raffle at Game Fair.
