Adopt Resolution #20-296 Hiring Temporary Ice Rink Attendants

The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire Temporary Ice Rink Attendants. Annually, the City employs Temporary Ice Rink Attendants to supervise and perform various tasks at Central Park and Ramsey Elementary School ice rinks, warming houses and grounds for approximately ten weeks. The process to hire Temporary Ice Rink Attendants includes an open competitive recruitment, interviews, verifying qualifications and backgrounds, orientation, and City Council authorization to hire.

Governor's Executive Order
If the current Executive Order #20-99 is extended, the City will not be able to open the Warming Houses and therefore attendants will not be necessary to work at the rinks. However, attendants must still be hired in order to conduct the required orientation, which is scheduled for December 10, 2020.  Under current orders, the City may still open the rinks, but the warming houses would not be able to be opened until December 19, 2020.  This information will be shared with candidates.

The funding required to hire the 2020/2021 temporary ice rink attendants is included in the annual budget.

Staff recommends hiring Mr. Jackson Dehen, Mr. Andrew Klocker, Mr. Jacob Marcoux, Ms. Jessica Medenwaldt, Ms. Sydney Meyer, Ms. Hailey Peterson, Ms. Cathryn Weishair and Ms. Elizabeth Witter as Temporary Ice Rink Attendants, all within the Rink Attendant pay scale which is $10.08 to $10.58 per hour; effective on or near December 10, 2020.
