Title:
Adopt Resolution #20-295 to a Hire a Part-time Police Records Technician
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request the City Council to hire a part-time Police Records Technician.
As the City Council will recall, during budget discussions the Council agreed by consensus to add a new part-time (25 hour per week) Police Technician in January 2021. As a result, Staff conducted an internal and external recruitment, conducted first and second interviews, an extensive backgrounding process and other pre-employment tests . Staff recommends the City Council hire Ms. Nicole Cramton as the City’s new Police Records Technician.
In summary, this position is needed to meet the needs of the ever growing backlog of police records reporting, such as performing computer entries for calls for service, transcribing supplemental reports and statements, submitting required documents to local, state and federal agencies, processing records using departmental imaging system, filing records per departmental retention guidelines, completing integrity and validation reports as required by state and federal agencies, and working with state and federal network programs as a certified operator. Funding Source:
The total funding required (wages and benefits) for this position is included in the 2021 budget in the amount of $32,510.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends hiring Ms. Nicole Cramton as the City’s new Police Records Technician, effective on or near January 4, 2021, with a credit of three vacation days, at $21.15 per hour which is the 2020 step 1 wage; after the 2021 contract is settled, the wage shall be adjusted as per the 2021 AFSCME contract.
Action:
Motion to adopt Resolution #20-295 hiring Ms. Nicole Cramton as the City’s new Police Records Technician, effective on or near January 4, 2021, with a credit of three vacation days, at $21.15 per hour which is the 2020 step 1 hourly wage; after the 2021 contract is settled, the wage shall be adjusted as per the 2021 AFSCME contract.
