Title

Hiring a Temporary Community Development Intern

Purpose/Background:

As the City Council will recall, a staffing shortage in the Community Development department was discussed at the September 14, 2021 work session. It was the consensus of the City Council to fill the staffing gaps in the Building Divison (due to a leave of absence) and in the Planning Division (due to a pending retirement)  by hiring the former Administrative Services Intern.  

The City Council also agreed by consensus to fill the current sixteen hour per week Community Development Assistant position with a twenty hour per week part-time Administrative Assistant position.  That position will be advertised internally in the coming weeks.  

Staff anticipates the Building Divison staffing need (20 hours per week) to last through December 6, 2021.   Staff also anticipates Ms. Laubach will cross train and provide coverage for the above mentioned pending retirement.  Following the internal recruitment for the twenty hour per week Administrative Assistant, another case will be brought forward for City Council consideration.

Funding Source:

The funding required for this aciton is included in the 2021 general fund budget as a result of the savings from the leave of absense and the pending retirment. 

Recommendation:

Staff recommends hiring Ms. Nicole Laubach as a temporary Administrative Intern at $18.00 per hour, effective September 15, 2021. 

Action:

Motion to approve hiring Ms. Nicole Laubach, at $18.00 per hour, effective September 15, 2021, to work as a temporary administrative intern for twenty to thirty-six hours per week in the Community Development department.
