BACKGROUND:

From their application:

The Nancy Lopez Legacy Celebration is a four-day community event honoring Roswell native Nancy Lopez, one of the most accomplished golfers in LPGA history and a trailblazer for women and Hispanic athletes. The celebration commemorates her remarkable career and lifelong contributions to the sport of golf while recognizing her lasting connection to the Roswell community. The event will feature the following:
Sept 2: Welcoming Reception for honored guests
Sept 3: Dedication of the Nancy Lopez Bypass, a free youth golf clinic
Sept 4: The official dedication of Nancy Lopez Elementary School, the recognition of Roswell's professional women golfers,
Sept 5: the dedication of the City Golf Course in her honor, a golf tournament and a community reception. These activities are designed to celebrate Roswell's heritage, inspire future generations, and attract visitors from across New Mexico and the Southwest. By honoring one of Roswell's most distinguished citizens, the event will generate regional interest, encourage overnight visitation, and showcase Roswell as a destination that celebrates excellence.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of $5,000 in funding for this event, allocated as follows:
