The use of Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology as a tool to assist law enforcement and public safety operations. ALPR systems use cameras and related technology to capture and process license plate information, which may be used to identify vehicles of interest and support investigations. In light of the concerns expressed by the public, this discussion item will focus on the policies and procedures in place at the Roswell Police Department (RPD). It is hoped that this review will allow people to better understand the technology and its implementation by RPD as well as be informed about the safeguards currently in place and provide a forum for suggestions of additional safeguards that could be used to minimize privacy concerns associated with the use of ALPR technology.
